A pseudonym instead of a room number, and a doorbell and a mailbox for every apartment—these are just the first small details setting the Gorki Apartments apart from the crowd of hip hotels in Berlin.

Gorki Apartments is set in a 19th-century residential building in Mitte, one of the Berlin’s hip-and-happening districts. It is a hotel with a difference, embracing the period apartment building’s heritage and making it its own.

Keeping to the original purpose of the building, Gorki offers not hotel rooms but whole apartments, for rent, from one night to six months and more—in fact for as long as the guests wish.

The units are expertly designed with a distinct mix of classic design pieces with vintage finds from the local flea markets. The interiors have a natural, homely luxury, a style created by the well-known Franco-German designer Sandra Pauquet, who worked on this project in close collaboration with the architect Kim Wang.

Still, Gorki Apartments have a businesslike edge, in that hip way that some modern city hotels cater to the time-poor creatives and startup entrepreneurs. After all, they are used to flexible hours and to working from home — so there should be no surprise in a hotel concept that offers homely comforts.

A vintage-inspired visual style fits the model, too, resulting in a place you could imagine settling down for more than just a couple of days.

Located in the heart of Berlin’s trendy Mitte district, Gorki Apartments offer a concept that sets it apart from the ordinary city hotels.

What we love

• Great interior design: apartments are arranged with taste, creativity and plenty of quirky ideas
• In keeping with the authentic neighborhood feel, each apartment has a mailbox and a (fictitious) surname
• Beautiful bathrooms featuring mosaics made with enameled brick tiles
• For a small fee, guests can use luxury bicycles made by the famous Finnish manufacturer Pelago

What you should know

• Breakfast is available from 8 am to 4 pm in Café Gorki Park situated on the ground floor. It's one of the oldest Cafés in Berlin-Mitte.
• Guests can book apartments for months. The rate will vary depending on the length of stay
• The central location provides easy access to public transportation — the Rosenthaler Platz underground station is just a just short walk away. The neighborhood is well-known for stylish bars restaurants
• Berlin-Tegel International Airport is some 20 minutes away by car
