In South Africa’s Setswana language molori means “to dream” and the Molori Safari Lodge lives up to its name: it’s a stunning place that blends contemporary design with African décor, to the backdrop of uncompromising luxury.

Located in the 75,000-hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, Molori Safari Lodge had its beginnings as a family getaway of the owners—but today it boasts the reputation of one of South Africa’s top lodges.

Well-balanced design

Designed by Molori Design and Kirk Lazarus, the Lodge’s interiors enchant by an effortlessly fascinating mix of styles.

A blend of contemporary pieces—such as Fendi daybed or Phillip Plein swing-bed—sit well next to traditional design solutions and local art: thatched roofs, stone floors, zebra skins, and wooden sculptures.

Five sumptuous designer suites each come with their own private infinity pool, wooden decks, heated flooring, fireplaces, indoor and outdoor showers, and fully retractable, floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

High-tech amenities include telescopes, Bose iPod Docking Systems, espresso machines, wireless Internet, portable DVD players, and mini-bars.

Dining at Molori Safari Lodge

Molori’s ever-changing menu, inspired by both Eastern and Western influences is discussed with guests prior to preparation. All meals are created from the freshest local ingredients, selected from either the lodge’s own organic garden or flown in from Johannesburg.

Dining spots are up to the guests: why not have brunch on the Star Deck overlooking the water hole, frequented by elephants—or enjoy the alfresco dining area in the main lodge.

Wildlife and the stars

The highlights of a stay at Molori are the early-morning and late-afternoon game drives through the game reserve, home to a variety of games including Africa’s ‘big five’. The Lodge also runs its own small astronomical observatory, boasting one of the largest privately-owned telescopes in Southern Africa.

A number of celebrities, politicians, and statesmen stayed at Molori; amongst them were Nelson Mandela, Nicholas Cage, Kate Moss.

What we love

• The Molori Safari Lodge is located approximately 400 kilometers northwest of Johannesburg and transfers can be arranged either directly by helicopter or via a shuttle flight, to the nearby Madikwe landing strip.
