Park Hyatt Siem Reap

Park Hyatt Siem Reap is a luxury hotel with easy access to Angkor Wat, and with a classy cocktail lounge and a French-Cambodian fusion restaurant.

Formerly Hotel de la Paix, an iconic property built in 1955, the Park Hyatt Siem Reap took over after a revamp by prolific interior designer Bill Bensley.

With a gleaming white exterior that rises above Siem Reap’s dusty streets, the hotel combines Art Deco aesthetics with contemporary luxury, with nods to the country’s colonial past.

Stay

Park Hyatt is one of the most luxurious Siem Reap hotels, with 104 rooms and suites, all of which provide comfort and space. The rooms here start at 366 square feet (34 square meters) and feel even bigger thanks to an ample amount of light and bright colors.

The local artistic heritage shines through in the metal headboards sculpted in the shape of a banyan tree, as well as the wooden furniture with colorful, eye-catching upholstery.

The bathrooms are clad entirely in white marble with wooden shutters to separate them from the bedrooms and contain his-and-hers vanities, deep soaking tubs, and separate rainfall showers.

Eat and drink

The Living Room bar is popular among the local elites and expats. Designed in dusty rose velvet and pitch-black lacquered wood and the world-class spa draws on local remedies, it’s a place as chic as it is cozy, and is a cultural hot spot in Siem Reap.

The Dining Room restaurant, a fine dining destination serving a tantalizing panoply of flavorful Khmer dishes prepared using classic French techniques.

One of our favorite venues at the hotel is a French-inspired café, The Glasshouse Deli, serving coffee, fresh pastries, as well as a great selection of homemade ice cream and sorbets.

Lounge and explore

The green-tiled free-form pool is a great place to cool off from the Southeast Asian sun, while the intimate spa promises to pamper with an extensive menu. The treatments incorporate ancient local remedies and traditions, such as pressure-point stimulation and the Apsara Scrub.

While there are plenty of reasons to stay put at the hotel, the reason to visit Siem Reap is, of course, the amazing Angkor Wat complex, located only a short tuk-tuk ride away.

What we love

• Chic interior design and architecture by Bill Bensley, inspired by Art Deco and infused with Khmer traditions
• Great selection at breakfast. There is a dim sum bar, traditional Khmer options, as well as various western egg dishes and a range of fresh bread, and everything else.
• The Dining Room offers a great selection of French au Provençal and Cambodian dishes made from traditional recipes
• The unique swinging day-beds where you can lounge, dine and relax in an open-air courtyard next to the 100-year old Banyan tree. We loved chilling here
• Central location in Siem Reap. It's a short walk into town and a tuk-tuk ride from the Angkor Archaeological Park
• The outdoor pool provides a shady spot to cool off on blistering hot days
• The lovely Glasshouse Deli Patisserie on the ground floor, and facing the street.

What you should know

• There is a very nice boutique shop at the hotel, Asian Emporium. It's one of Asia’s largest chain of heritage, luxury, fine art, and lifestyle stores.
• The concierge can arrange various attractions, including a hot air balloon flight over the Angkor Wat, or a Temple Dinner, a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience in the Angkor Archaeological Park.
• Siem Reap can be chaotic and dusty. Ask for a hotel room away from the street, which can be noisy
• The town has developed incredibly fast over the years and the infrastructure can't quite catch up, so things like power outages can happena
