Housed in a beautiful 16th-century palazzo, SoprArno Suites is a stylish urban sanctuary with 10 individually designed suites in Florence’s boho-chic Oltrarno neighborhood.

Residential experience

The team of creators who shaped SoprArno Suites included an architect, a furniture-obsessed lawyer, an artisan carpenter, and a graphic designer. Their collaboration resulted in unique spaces decked out with distressed stripped floorboards, unique modern art pieces, and ornately painted ceilings.

Each of the 10 guestrooms has been individually designed with stylish furniture, quirky artwork, and indulgent, deep freestanding baths. Original frescoes and gold leaf-covered tables add a splash of Italian opulence.

SoprArno Suites is more of a boutique guest house than a classic hotel, providing a quiet, residential-style experience. While it doesn’t have a restaurant, the ground-level Sott’Arno café serves a delightful breakfast buffet with fresh pastries, fruit, and expert coffee. Its delicious panini is a local favorite.

In the Area

One of the main selling points of SoprArno Suites is the laid-back location of the hotel, across the river from the crowds and close to the Pitti Palace.

The Boboli Gardens are only a stroll from the property. Laid out in the 15th and 16th centuries, they’re dotted with Renaissance statues and ornate fountains and serve as a good introduction to Italy’s formal gardens. Nearby is La Specola, an 18th-century natural history museum where you can admire fossilized skeletons and explore the botanical garden.

Around the corner from the hotel is the 15th-century Pitti Palace, once home to the Medici family and much later Napoleon’s power base. It’s now the largest museum complex in Florence.

What you should know

• Not all typical hotel facilities or services are available at SoprArno Suites, but breakfast is served daily
• There is no gym or spa, neither is there a hotel restaurant, but the neighborhood has plenty of excellent restaurants and trattorias
• The hotel is located just a short stroll from the Pitti Palace and Ponte Vecchio. Both are a must-see!
