One such authentic area is located in Baja California, just across the border from US. Often referred to as el otro Mexico, or “the other Mexico”, it is quite unlike the rest of the country.
It has Mediterranean microclimate with dozens of fine wineries and bears many similarities to the US state across the border. Its traditional towns offer an idiosyncratic blend of modern and traditional Mexico. Among them is the Valle de Guadalupe, the home of Encuentro Guadalupe Antiresort.

“The basic idea for Encuentro was to offer an immersive experience into local nature and culture.”—Jorge Gracia
Staggered along picturesque hills and overlooking an expansive valley, the eco-friendly cabins of Encuentro are designed to highlight the isolation and rugged beauty of the Valle de Guadalupe location.
The twenty luxury cabins are designed to intentionally weather over time, slowly becoming part of the landscape. Muted colour palettes ensure the rich hues of the valley views remain the centre of attention.
The ascetic colour scheme continues inside the cabins. At just 20 square meters each, the interiors feel essentially luxurious thanks to sleek, light-wood furnishings, tall floor-to-ceiling windows and contrasts of black trims with white walls, some turning on a pivot, acting as doors. Industrial-style pendants and ornaments and exposed bulbs contribute to the chic minimalist feel of the cabins.

The hotel was conceived by a pair of Baja entrepreneurs Juan Yi and Alfredo Acosta, who drafted help of architects and designers from Gracia Studio. It’s a firm with a passion for creating economical architecture, with a particular interest in using modular and flexible buildings.
